György Sebök
Words From a master.
-
György Sebök was an internationally renowned pianist and pedagogue whose legacy profoundly influenced author Barbara Alex’s life and the lives of many others.
Mr. Sebök served as a mentor to Alex during the last decade of his life—a period in which his masterful command of the piano intersected with wisdom born of experience, age, and extraordinary insight.
Upon his death in November 1999, flags of mourning were raised at both entrances to the Liszt Academy in Budapest, and grief made its way around the world.

Counterform was asked to help bring to life a 200+ page text that would serve as a homage to Mr. Sebök’s life and teachings. Sebök believed that the lessons of music were analogous to the lessons of life. Therefore, we set out to make the type in this book as detailed, meaningful, and playful as his thoughts on classical music were. By personifying his words through the use of classical typography, we were able to thoughtfully create a unique piece that held meaning for classical musicians everywhere.
